An Taisce Energy Mission Statement

An Taisce, the National Trust for Ireland, is charged with protecting the built and natural environment for future generations.

Energy, how we support it and how we use it, impacts enormously on our economy, our society and our natural environment.

An Taisce's aim is to influence and inform Irish energy policy strategy in a constructive manner to ensure sustainable energy development.

About Our Energy Web Site

Each page on the energy site will allow access to our News and Events.  Each page will have information and links regarding the page subject.  Where relevant, An Taisce energy policy in brief regarding the page subject will appear in a separate section entitled An Taisce Energy Policy Note at the bottom of the page.

History of Our Energy Unit

The 21st Century has brought many changes to global energy strategy.  Security of supply has become a major issue as the world grapples with peak oil and gas, and dependency on those two resources.    Ireland is no different.  As an island nation at the periphery of Europe, our national energy strategy has had to be realigned in the past decade to ensure that we have adequate energy resources to meet our voracious demand.  Alot of the resulting energy policies are ill-conceived and unsustainable.

An Taisce's Energy Unit was set up in October 2008 with the appointment of our Energy Officer, Elizabeth Muldowney.  Our goal is to develop strong working relationships with all energy stakeholders to achieve joint solutions to the policy challenges we face in light of an ever-changing energy paradigm.

We are now in the process of re-designing our energy web page so please bear with us.
